Northumberland Forest Turkey Trot set for Thanksgiving Monday

Get your turkey legs ready for the Northumberland Forest Turkey Trot on Monday, October 9, 2017, at the Cobourg Scout Reserve on County Road 45, approximately 15 km north of Cobourg. This event is a great way for families to enjoy a morning run through a beautiful forest while raising money for the YMCA Annual Strong Kids Campaign.

The Northumberland Forest Turkey Trot aims to provide a fun and safe way for families to be active together while enjoying the natural resources the Northumberland Forest offers. Although the trail is nicely groomed, the course can be quite challenging, even for the avid runner. The steep hills and dirt grounds present a stimulating adventure for everyone. Participants are encouraged to bring their festive spirit by dressing up in their best turkey outfit, a Halloween costume or other Thanksgiving-themed race gear.

“Last year we had over 400 people participate in the Turkey Trot. This year, we are hoping to reach over 500,” says Rod Simpson, Event Organizer. “The race is planned so you can pop your turkey in the oven, enjoy a beautiful fall morning with your family, participate in physical activity and still be home before lunch. This event has supported the YMCA Annual Strong Kids Campaign for many years and it’s a great opportunity to spend quality time together over the Thanksgiving weekend.”

Registration is available at the Cobourg YMCA, at the event beginning at 8:30 a.m. or online at www. northumberlandforestturkeytrot.org. Subsidized registration is available. All proceeds benefit the YMCA Annual Strong Kids Campaign.
