Cobourg Beach Water Park Won’t Open Until Summer 2019

After months of anticipation, debate and poor organization, At The Lake Distributing Incorporated in partnership with Summer Water Sports and the Town of Cobourg announced on Monday that the opening of the floating water park at Cobourg Beach has been postponed until Summer 2019.

In a statement, the distributing company was disappointed but optimistic for an official opening next year: “Both businesses along with the Town of Cobourg have been working diligently over the past 6 months preparing for the opening, however, the total number of lifeguards required to safely operate the water park could not be procured. This is very disappointing for all parties involved, as the addition of the water park to Cobourg Beach was intended to add an exciting new feature for the thousands of local and visiting guests to the beach each summer.”

At the Lake Distributing will now begin to prepare for next summer and start the hiring process for lifeguards later this year.

The original opening date was scheduled for June 23rd and was delayed twice before its cancellation for a Summer 2018 open. The insufficient number of qualified lifeguards is the biggest factor for its delay. Every lifeguard operating the water park must be NLS qualified and require special waterpark certification to work in a sporting aquatic environment.

“We look forward to working with the staff at the Town of Cobourg in 2019 to bring this water park project to fruition.”
