During Septemeber of 2012, Graham started Cobourg News, now known as Cobourg Media. When his mom and her friend Judy were walking down the street outside his house a big tree branch crashed down and almost killed them both. After everyone was safe, Graham called his friend Hunter Straughan and Kieran McFarlane to get together and report on the story. Cobourg News was then born and since then Graham and his team have covered over 300 local and international stories.
Two years after, Graham branched out and started to provide production services for the community. Graham launched his business and changed the name to Cobourg Media, including Cobourg News as a flagship segment for the business.
Graham was first interested in media when he appeared on CityTv’s Breakfast Television in 2009 and again in 2012. He built the whole Citytv studio out of lego from studio camera to green screen, his debut on Toronto’s morning show put his name to fame and created a close relationship with Citytv staff and on-air personality.
Graham’s passion for journalism and broadcast television has to lead to many great opportunities such as covering Vimy Ridge’s 100th anniversary for CityNews Toronto, meeting CBC’s Former Chief Correspondent Peter Mansbridge, interviewing: Prime Minister of Canada Justin Trudeau, Ontario Premier Doug Ford, Former Ontario Premier Kathleen Wynne, CTV’s Ken Shaw, Bell Let’s Talk Ambassador Clara Hughes, Hockey’s Great Hayley Wickenhieser, We Founder Craig Keilburger, Motivational Speaker Spencer West, Actor Mark Salling, and Co-Chair of the Vimy Foundation Helen Vari just to name a few. Graham has toured London England’s BBC, CTV Toronto, CBC Toronto, and Global Chexs Television.
Graham is passionately involved with the Cobourg community. Graham is Cobourg Collegiate Institute’s former Student Council Prime Minister in previous roles of Deputy Prime Minister, Technology Minister and Grade Representative. He is also the former Lead Producer for CCI’s Morning Howl and Technology department which televises the announcements and communications throughout the school. Graham enjoys his involvement with CCI Track and Field, Cross Country, Badminton, and Volleyball. Graham sings in the Chancel Choir at Trinity United Church along with being a Handbell Ringer with the Jubilate Handbell Choir.
Graham is the former youth representative on the Cobourg 2017 Canada 150 organizing committee, former volunteer organizer and communication director for Chazzapalooza- a youth mental health awareness concert. Graham also actively supports Trinity United Church, Cornerstone Family Violence Prevention Centre, the Town of Cobourg, Northumberland United Way, Northumberland YMCA, Kawartha Pine Ridge District School Board, plus many other initiatives.
For 3 years Graham Beer and Cobourg Media raised $6000 dollars for the Salvation Army and Northumberland Fare Share through the annual Cobourg Media Christmas Special. In 2015, Graham held his first event at a local entertainment venue. The special was smaller in scale but raised $1000 for the Salvation Army. Just a year later, Graham moved venues to the auditorium at Cobourg Collegiate Institute. Members of his student body became performers, volunteers and production crew. The event grew much larger and Graham more than doubled donations. The event was broadcasted on his Cobourg Media platforms and on Cogeco YourTV
On his free time, Graham enjoys going on adventures with friends, going out for dinner, running around town or planning his next trip. He enjoys celebrating experiences with friends and meeting new people.
Graham is the recipient of the 2017 Ontario Junior Citizen Award presented by The Ontario Community Newspaper Association, TD Bank and The Government of Ontario for his efforts in the community and founding Cobourg Media. “I live by three words: Create, Lead and Inspire. Every day we have the opportunity to do more and to better. It only takes one decision to make an impactful difference. Don’t allow your goals or dreams to define your current ability. Sometimes it takes some lego and a big old tree branch. No matter your age just be passionate.”
