Premier Kathleen Wynne visits Downtown Cobourg

It was quite the surprise for Downtown Cobourg shoppers on Thursday afternoon during the annual Sidewalk Sale as Ontario Premier Kathleen Wynne walked down King street to meet business owners and vendors. Wynne also enjoyed talking with residents, tourists, and shoppers who were taking in the festivities.

Joined by Northumberland-Quinte West MPP Lou Rinaldi, Cobourg Mayor Gil Brocanier, and Adam Bureau, chair of the Cobourg Downtown Business Improvement Area, the Premier spent over an hour talking about a variety of issues and topics that the Ontario Government is working on, from the rise of minimum wage, funding for business startups and hydro rates.

Wynne is on an Eastern Ontario tour, making stops in Bobcaygeon, Peterborough, Kingston, and Napanee. Her focus is talking with the public and learning about local community concerns.

“This is one of the most vibrant main streets in the province. It is just a beautiful town, growing and thriving. I came to see the local business'” Wynne told Graham Beer in a private interview.

She spoke to a lot of people on the street but made a point of going into the Rustic Bean, All Creatures Great & Small and Brocaniers.

Wynne has toured Cobourg in the past — in June of 2013, she joined the Walk a Mile in Her Shoes march down King Street for Cornerstone Family Violence Prevention Centre.
