CCI Kicks Off Terry Fox Fundraising

The excitement is building at Cobourg Collegiate Institute as another school year kicks off. Already in full force, CCI has so much planned and is looking forward to more exciting events, community outreach and high performing sports teams.

“We Are CCI” is our new brand this year. Though our roots from CDCI West and CDCI East are still recognized, all students have been part of our wolf pack since 2014 when the school opened. We continue to build community and spirit in a facility that opens opportunities for everyone.

Last Tuesday we kicked off our annual Terry Fox campaign. Over 30 years of participation, the schools have raised $265,000. Last year, CCI accumulated $15,000 for Cancer research and was declared one of the top schools in the Kawartha Pine Ridge District School Board. This year we are striving to raise over $17,000 marking this CCI 17in17.

The campaign theme this year is “Making a World of Difference”. Known as a Canadian hero, Terry Fox is remembered across the globe. CCI will be recognizing how his contributions to Cancer funding have made international impacts and what it means to students and staff. The hashtag #CCIamrunningfor demonstrates how we remember those battling and those who we have lost to this life-changing disease.

We invite the community out to our first ever CCI Terry Fox Yard Sale this Saturday from 9 am to 12 pm at the school- 335 King St. East, Cobourg. Any items are welcome and may be dropped off at the Main Office by Friday. All proceeds will go towards this year’s Terry Fox campaign.

CCI and St. Mary’s joint Terry Fox Run is on October 6th at 12 pm. We invite the community to line the route to cheer on students who complete the 5km walk and run. Other events include a CCI Pep Rally, Pancake Wolfdown Breakfast, and Wrap Up Auction.

We invite all students to reach out to family and friends to collect pledges. It is also possible to donate online at www.terryfox.org on the CCI fundraising page. We are also keeping the homeroom competition alive with the CCI money “throw down”. Students and staff empty their pockets every day for bragging rights and prizes.

Some schools must dream about our reality, and along with our students and staff, I take pride in what CCI has become and is becoming. Connect with us on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram: @CCIwolves, and at www.cciwolves.com.
