Missing Boy Search Officially Discontinued at Cobourg Beach

The search for a missing boy this afternoon at the Cobourg Beach has been discontinued. Searchers have not located anyone in the vicinity and no person has been reported missing at this time.

A beach goer reported shortly after 3:35 PM a boy aged 8 to 12, in the water was swimming and then disappeared. With people very concerned, lifeguards formed a land and water search. Hundreds could be seen chained together trying to search the water for the reported boy. After several hours everyone was told to exit the water and leave it to the Cobourg, Ontario Police and Canadian Coast Gaurd as several lookout boats and helicopter was despatched. 

The Cobourg Police Service would like to thank the Ontario Provincial Police, Cobourg Fire Department, Northumberland County EMS, the Canadian Coast Guard, O.C.E.A.P search and rescue, Y.M.C.A life guards and all of the volunteers who assisted in the search.
